Ian O’Hara (b. 2006, Queens, NY) is an artist and photographer based in New York City. He is currently pursuing his B.F.A. at The Cooper Union, following his studies at LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. Working primarily through portraiture, his practice explores the relationship between people, image, and identity, with an interest in the ways photography can construct and preserve moments of presence.
At 19, O’Hara photographed musician Sombr for the cover of Seventeen magazine. His work has since appeared in Seventeen, Cosmopolitan, Highsnobiety, and Dazed Magazine. In 2024, he was nominated as a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts for photography.
Working between fashion, editorial, and fine art, O'Hara approaches portraiture as a space for collaboration between photographer and subject. Based in Queens, O’Hara continues to develop a photographic practice rooted in fashion, and contemporary culture.
